Domain Name Service is basically known as DNS. DNS is such a system which translates domain names easily memorized by humans into the numerical IP address for computer services. We can say that DNS is the internet's primary directory service.
Domain Name Service is very important functionality for internet. It automatically translates the names that we type in address-bar to the IP address of the web server. It uses distributed database concept for storage of such domain names and their IP addresses. Such database server remains within the hierarchy of database servers. When any user sends request by typing any domain name in the address-bar of the browser, a piece of software first calls the Domain Name Service Resolver that contacts the DNS server to determines the IP address of the server. If first DNS server does not find any thing like this at that time it forwards the request to another DNS server at the next higher level of hierarchy. In this manner, finally DNS Resolver gets the IP address of the particular request sent by the client.
Most network operating systems support the configuration of primary, secondary and tertiary DNS servers. ISP (Internet Service Provider) also have their own DNS servers. System which is generated through all these process is known as Domain Name Services.
